Artist bio:
Gómez Sancho, born in 1999 is a contemporary sculptor based in Cartago, Costa Rica. Specializing in sculpture and installation. Gómez is recognized for his innovative use of 3D printing and the incorporation of natural elements through new technologies to create a distinctive figurative language. His work uniquely portrays figures in motion and interaction exploring new ways of inhabiting reality.
His practice invites the imagination of alternate and nonexistent worlds as spaces of transformation where new forms of dwelling in reality are rehearsed. Through a symbolic, spiritual, and emotional universe he investigates how the human can be reconfigured beyond the self. Each piece acts as a photograph suspended in a three-dimensional plane where the viewer uncovers both intimate and collective narratives. Among his most notable projects is the installation “Eternal Illusion” (2023), presented at the National Gallery of Costa Rica; a zoetrope that merges sculpture and animation to explore grief and the fear of loss generating a profound dialogue with the public and sparking interest in the contemporary art scene.
He has exhibited his work in spaces such as the National Gallery in San José, the MARTE Museum in El Salvador, and Klaus Steinmetz Contemporary Art in San José. His works are part of both national and international collections. He received first place at the Biennale of light in San José and at the Biennale Tridimensional, and has participated in events such as the Sumarte Auction reaffirming his presence in the current sculptural scene.
